This week I was determined to cut our grocery budget. Since I already felt I was doing quite a bit to keep our food bill low, this was challenging. What could I do to further save?
Normally I make a dinner menu for everyday I am shopping for. I search my recipes, come up with a meal plan and write down everything I need to buy to make my choices. For lunches I may plan a few recipes but mostly just decided while shopping what I would purchase to make for lunch. Snacks and breakfast were the same way. I would have some recipes to make but I would also grab some things I just knew my children liked and would enjoy.
This week I planned EVERYTHING. I made a list of each meal and snack that could be eaten during a day. I did not buy anything that was not prewritten on my list. Absolutely nothing. I felt like I had bought a lot less. I had fewer bags, I am sure. Things I planned were very budget conscious and I even had some items leftover from last grocery trip that I did not have to buy. However, I was quite dissappointed in the savings. It was a few bucks. All the work and planning and I come out with a few bucks. I guess the recent hike in grocery prices off set my big savings.
Oh well....let's rethink this again! Next week I will try something more!!
I wrote this post in response to a challenge on the Making Time for Mom blog.

What a bummer! Did you buy anything that was in bulk and can be used for more than one week? That's what I find happens to me sometimes but then I spend less the next weeks. Hope that's the case!
Thanks for sharing your post and linking up :)
Don't be discouraged. :) WE are all feeling the recent grocery hikes. Maybe next week you can live off of this week's leftovers and use up things you already had in your pantry and freezer. Just remember that a few bucks over time adds up. Good luck in your challenge!
