Boost your Budget (January review)

Looking back on January how did I do on my efforts to reduce the budget.  Well I

1.  began an active diligent effort to use coupons.  This resulted in big savings at the grocery store.  Its something I will continue to do.

2.  I have been saving as much as $50 a week less than than our bugeted amount for the grocery store.  This is great because my budget amount was considered by most people I shared it with to be very low already for a family of 8.

3.  I, myself, have not had food out for almost 2 months now.  I have packed meals for my children when we go out to run errands, grocery shop etc to avoid having to buy food out.  I have made a huge effort not to give in and get food out when I am especially tired, like after Church on Sundays.  After keeping my herd of children quiet and still for hours after getting up early in the morning to dress and feed 6 children I feel a bit worn out and cooking is not appealing at all.  Yet, I wander home and prepare a meal.

I have also found other ways to save as well.  I made use of the vet clinic to save on the new puppy's vet bills.  I am not getting a new computer even though mine is dying, is so slow, locks up all the time, randomly turns off and sometimes does not restart for a while, and has a habit of sparking, yes, sparking!  I am currently thinking of new ways to save in February and beyond too.

Good for you sticking to the plan even when it wasn't convenient. $50 savings a week is fantastic! We do the inexpensive clinic for the shots for our animals as well. It sounds like you have really made this challenge work. Well done!

Eating out was probably our biggest money waster!
