I, over the past few years, have developed a real aversion to strong, artificial type scents. I do, however, love light natural type scents. When I read that Seventh Generation was wondering what type of natural scents people preferred, I was glad to hear they cared. I love the Seventh Generation products and I think its great they not only care about the safety of their products, the safety of their users and the products impact on the environment, but also what they can do to make using them more pleasant for us!
My favorite scent? Well I LOVE food oriented scents. Things like cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg probably top my list. Other food scents like coffee and chocolate are also favorites of mine. Next in line for me would be citrus scents...especially if they are more mellow, soft "creamy" versions rather than bold citrus smells.
So what do those scents remind me of?
The spicy scents that top my list bring to mind childhood. The days when it was frigid cold outside yet the house was warm. Inside that warm house was something baking. Maybe it was a pumpkin pie. Maybe it was cinnamon raisin bread. Maybe it was cookies. Whatever it was, not only did it scent the house nicely, but it was a constant reminder that later in the day you had something delicious to look forward to. Something sweet and yummy. Imagine it...warm and safe inside your home as the cold winds howl at the windows and the snow flies by. The delicious scent of something baking inside the oven. The carefree enjoyment of life that childhood affords. The smell of these fragrances bring those feelings back to me even to this day!
I think my preference for the coffee scent came more as an adult. Although I have never been a huge coffee drinker, I have enjoyed it on certain occasions. One time I love a hot cup of coffee is when we are camping during cooler weather. To get up first thing in the morning as the sun is still new for the day, the air crisp and cool is something that entices me. Sitting in front of a campfire at that time is comforting. The perfect accompaniment to that scene is a hot cup of coffee (and I might add, something sweet, like a doughnut!). The air is still and everything is quiet (unless my children have gotten up for the day as well! Yeah not so still and quiet then). Sipping that warm coffee is just so relaxing. During these times I have had the pleasure of some great conversations with friends and enjoyed seeing things like deer walk by mere feet away from us. Whenever I smell coffee brewing, it takes my imagination back to those campfires!
How about you? Do you enjoy the scents I do? Perhaps you prefer more floral scents? Maybe there is something else? Why not share your favorites and where they take you!
